Labor is considered a derived demand. Firms do not inherently want to hire workers, but do so in order to sell products. Gi-hun needs money for his mom's medical bills and reaches out to a friend about a loan. He offers to pay back the loan by working at his friend's bar, but his friend is quick to point out that there's no demand for a delivery driver because no one is eating at his bar. Since there's no demand for his services, he has no demand for a delivery driver.
